Some things you should know about this test BEFORE you get started.
The ISPGeeks Connection Quality Test is not a like any broadband speed test you've used before. First and foremost this test is being run from a highly specialized network connection testing appliance called an AccessCT-2. This test should also not be used alone but should be used in addition to our Capacity Test and Route Analysis Test. This test is special in that it is an application speed test and displays real world speeds and connection quality as would be observed by most applications that you currently operate such as streaming or voice over IP and other single socket applications.
Do NOT treat the results from this test as you would results from other broadband speed tests.
This test is measuring the max data flow and quality of the data stream for a single socket connection and helps diagnose and resolve problems that impact mainstream applications such as downloads and browsing, as well as rich-media applications such as VoIP, by identifying TCP delays, quality of service issues, jitter, packet loss, bandwidth degradation, network routing, and peering congestion.
While it will display an approximate bandwidth rating for your connection that's not nearly as important as the potentially lower DOWNLOAD SPEED rating being displayed.
The DOWNLOAD SPEED rating you see is the real world speed you can expect applications you run to experience with your broadband connection (despite what your subscribed speed is). This is the maximum speed things like Netflix, Youtube, Vonage and other similar
applications and devices will see as well.
For example...this means if you have a 20mbps capable connection and this test rates your DOWNLOAD SPEED at less than 4mbps with a QoS of 50% it's highly unlikely you will have a good Netflix experience regardless of what the APPROXIMATE BANDWIDTH rating or traditional speed tests show (like Testmy.net, Speedtest.net, Speakeasy.net). Flip that around and lets say your 20mbps subscribed connection tests
rates your DOWNLOAD SPEED at 15.2mbps with a QoS of 97% and no errors this would be considered a very good result and you should have no problems with most applications.
We encourage everyone who is having issues with Youtube, Netflix, Voip and similar applications to test their connection with this test BUT before you go completely crazy over the results we ask that you visit our forums, post your results and any questions you may have. If you are coming to this site for the first time and you just want
to test your overall connection capacity please use either our main Advanced Diagnostics Capacity Test OR one of the AccessCT Capacity Tests available. I can't stress this enough!! Before you freak out on the results you see or think the test is inaccurate (when it isn't)

What tests are performed during the testing process?
TCP Application Speed, QoS for both Upstream & Downstream
This test will carefully analyze TCP to identify and report inherent delays that affect data performance such as packet loss, duplicate packet transmissions and data recovery demands. You will notice that upon completion of the test virtually all aspects of your connection line quality including RTT, Max Delay, Max Route, Effective Speed, Max TCP connections, TCP MTU, TCP Forced Idle, Pkts Norder, Bytes Norder and about 25 other metrics.
QOS Reporting
The ISPgeeks QOS metric represents the consistency of download capacity, a key factor affecting web application delivery, especially for time-sensitive applications such as VoIP and video-over-IP. Pay close attention to this metric. A low QoS rating is bad regardless of your avaiable bandwidth speeds.
